Wee Free Men Startup

This post is mostly about opinions. I know we're not ready to start yet since not all of us have acquired the book, but I just want to put a feeler out for how people want to proceed with it, since it's much shorter and also much lighter fare than our previous book. In my copy, since I own the hardcover, the first chapter is 18 pages, and as this is a young adult/children's book, the reading is fairly simple. Do people think one short chapter a week would be too fast, or would you like to do larger blocks over a longer span of time? I feel like this book will finish quickly, and I want to make the discussion enjoyable, though I may just wing it and leave you guys to pull whatever opinions you like out of it, as it's purely pleasure reading and not terribly deep. As I love this author to death and will probably suggest more of his books as we make further nominations, and as I know most of you guys haven't read him before, I may ask you to look at the writing style as much as anything, since that's what I love most about Pratchett. And now, as I'm babbling and have had a hard day, I'll leave you guys to give opinions on how fast we should move.

I meant to pick up a copy of this book at the library on Saturday, but spaced it. So, I haven't had a chance to actually look at the book. I don't mind a chapter a week - that sounds very doable. My only question is how many chapters are there? If there are several, it might be better to discuss two chapters a week or break it up even more. I'm open to anything. I imagine the reading will be much lighter than our first book, so time constraints shouldn't be as much of a problem, hopefully.

Actually, there aren't very many at all, only 18, and none of them terribly long, so we can definitely double or even triple up depending on people's preferences. How much can people read easily in a week if it's light reading? That's what I need to know from you guys, so I can set up a schedule and post it so we can get started. I'm on spring break next week, but then I've read the book several times and can get through it quickly.

If it's a Pratchett book, I'll probably go through it pretty quickly. If the chapters are short enough, I could probably go 2-3 chapters per week, easy. But that's just me.

It would be a challenge for me but I could try 2 chapters a week.

For me, two chapters a week sounds great! I have had some trouble getting through the last book (still not done!)but this sounds like a much easier read.

Hmm. I've already finished it, so whatever anyone else wants to do, I'm totally cool with it. I read it in about 3 days. I do that sometimes. Just devour books. Couldn't be helped.

I've heard comments from a majority of us, and it seems like two chapters a week might be best, though we can certainly step it up if it seems like nine weeks will be too long for just one book. That was my major concern in keeping the reading sections so short, but if that's the preference I'll happily set it up that way. Let's aim to have the first discussion, chapters 1-2, next Friday April 10th, so that anyone who hasn't can grab the book and still have the week to read it. I'll make an official post for the schedule as well.

Ruth! You've already finished it? Crazy! I picked my copy up from the library and I'll start reading it in the next day or two.
