Ok, it's Friday night, and hopefully everyone has had a chance to read these two chapters. What are our initial thoughts about Tiffany Aching and Miss Tick the witch? Also, how is everyone finding the schedule? Is this easy reading to a point where we'd like to speed up, or slow down, or anything of that nature? Let the discussion commence!

I'm actually caught up, which probably means we're going to slow for everyone else.
When I first got this book the cover didn't inspire me. I thought it looked like a book that I wouldn't enjoy. However, I do like the way the story is going. I like Tiffany and Miss Tick. The only reason I haven't read further was that I didn't want to accidentally post spoilers. It says something good about a story that is able to convince you to like it when you're predisposed not to.
Based on what we've seen of Miss Tick, what are your thoughts on the nature of witchcraft in this world (it's called the Discworld, btw, and though that has no bearing on any of these stories, it's just a fun fact to know. It's flat, carried on the backs of four elephants, who in turn stand on the back of Great A'Tuin, who is a giant turtle who swims through space) and Tiffany's view of witches.
For witches to actually survive I think they would have to be something like Miss Tick. The really sad part was that the old woman who was killed for being a witch probably wasn't one.
Oh, wait until you meet some of the other witches...Miss Tick is nothing to them.
I'm actually on schedule with the reading, but just haven't been on here to make a comment until today. So far the story is great. I'm enjoying that it's an easy read, plus I'm giggling as I go. I love great characters and character-driven stories, and the way Pratchett describes them is delightful. So far my favorite has been reading about Granny Aching.
I just had to mention the part on page 8, where he mentions the dumb jokes Tiffany's father always makes. "They weren't particularly funny after about the third time, but she'd miss it if he didn't say at least one of them every week. They didn't have to be funny - they were father jokes." This was so funny to me because it is a SPOT ON description of my own father!
I'm so glad you guys are enjoying this so far. I love the writing style, and I often find myself laughing out loud at Pratchett's work.
