I am really enjoying this book! The only other book I've read by Terry Pratchett was Good Omens (which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman). I am loving the writing style and the humor is just right. I love that he puts little side notes at the bottom; they are a special treat to me.
I really like that this book seems to be taking on fairy tales as we know them and turning them around a bit to examine at different angles. Tiffany is a pretty smart girl to not fall for the 'tricks' fairy tales play on people. I love that she doesn't believe them and has sympathy for the 'wicked witches' in the stories. I'm really liking her character.
The Wee Free Men are kinda cool so far. Still mysterious but fun as well. I'm finding myself looking out of the corner of my eye trying to catch one in my own home...
*giggles* Believe me, if you catch one, they'll be making off with something, unless you happen to be a witch. I'm so glad you're enjoying this. I was also tempted to choose Good Omens as my book choice, but I knew a lot of you guys would enjoy Wee Free Men. Tiffany would probably be a person who enjoyed the "real" fairy tales, not the kid-friendly versions. And as for the Fairy Folk, Tolkien expressed it best when he said that there's a good reason we used to call them the Fair Folk...they were frightening and powerful, and we didn't want to offend. Offending the Nac Mac Feegle might very well be the last thing you do.
Sorry I'm so late to comment. I read almost the entire book during a several hour stay at the ER earlier this week. It was the perfect book to read in that situation because I was getting all sorts of tests run and I was so nervous, but the book helped distract me and keep my mind off my worry. I also thought it was funny how many of the nurses and doctors paused to look at the book. I think the cover got their attention. :P
Anyway, I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm afraid it's always going to be associated with the hospital for me, but it was definitely a fun read. I thought the humor was cute. In answer to Angela's question the Wee Free Men are hilarious. I need to go back and refer back to the chapters so I stay on track with where we are.
