Howdy, y'all,
I first encountered Seven Daughters and Seven Sons when a college roommate introduced it to me. It's a girl power book and I have an affinity for those. It also gives readers a glimpse of Middle Eastern culture, which I love to learn about. This is my third or fourth time reading it and I'm excited to read it again. From the little background research I've done, I've found out that this story has been part of Iraqi folklore since around the eleventh century.
This book is a fairly quick and easy read. It's divided up into three parts and I'm thinking we'll read one part a week. If this is too fast and we need to wait for anyone to catch up, just let me know.
One thing I've never done while reading this book that I'd like to do this time is to find the locations of the many geographical features mentioned...mainly cities and rivers. Just an idea for anyone that wants to join me in that.
I think that's about it. So, finish reading Part 1 by Friday, November 13th and we'll go ahead and start the discussion for it whenever anyone is ready. Alsalamu alaykum.

Sounds great! I was curious about this book, so I read a little about it and saw that it was based on Iraqi folklore, as you mentioned in your opening post here, which has piqued my curiosity. I'm excited to read this book.
Time frame for reading sounds good to me.
Do I know the college roommate who suggested this book to you? Just curious, since I did know a few of your old roommates. :D
Unfortunately this is not one of the roommates you knew, Kate. But you've got me wondering what books any of those roommates would recommend.
I'm back! Sorry for disappearing on y'all.
I'm excited to read this book. The time frame seems great. I'm looking forward to a great discussion.
I'm game for the discussion breakup, I've had the book waiting on the shelf for a while. I'm looking forward to reading it.
I'm back too! I'm hoping to keep up on the reading this time - sounds like a good read.
I've been buried under a heavy workload so I haven't been able to follow this blog as I'd like. Now that I have a 2 week break I hope to catch up. I don't have the book yet and it's not at my library. I'll try to find it at Barnes and Noble tomorrow.
I couldn't get the book at Barnes and Noble so I had to order it from Amazon and of course I had to order other stuff so I got free shipping but that means it won't be here for at least 5 days.
Bummer...btw, for future reference, B&N gives 3 day free shipping after $25. Well worth it when trying to catch up on manga, too.
